Soldiers fallen in armed conflict on Dniestre commemorated in Chisinau

Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/- A solemn meeting dedicated to heroes of military actions for defending the territorial integrity and independence of Moldova was organized in Chisinau today.
On this occasion, several officials, veterans and other people laid flowers at the Eternitate Memorial Compound this morning, in memory of soldiers who died in the armed conflict on the Dniestre.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that the citizens of the country will always keep the memory of those who have not returned from the battlefield.
“The conflict has left deep pain in our hearts. Hundreds of families have lost their relatives. We will always keep their memory. We greatly appreciate their courage and manhood. It is a lesson of honor for generations. The government will do its best to reintegrate the country. We have achieved more positive results on the situation in the left bank of the Dniestre, and I assure you that the country’s reintegration will surely be achieved,” he said.
For his part, Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan said that the citizens who have fought for the integrity of the country are peace ambassadors. “I express my condolences to families who have lost their close friends in this conflict. We are a peaceful nation and we must make every effort to maintain peace and quiet in our country,” he said.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu together with heads of official delegations participating in the high-level interparliamentary conference laid flowers today in memory of those fallen in the armed conflict in 1992. The official delegation held a moment of silence at the Eternitate Memorial Compound.
On 2 March, the armed conflict on the Dniestre began, lasting four months. The ceasefire agreement was signed on 21 July 1992, after which the political negotiations were started for the Transnistrian conflict settlement.
According to the Defense Ministry, over 30,000 people participated in the armed conflict on the Dniestre in 1991-1992. 300 soldiers and civilians died and 3,500 were injured.
