Prices for over 1,400 medicines to reduce in Moldova

Chisinau, 05 March /MOLDPRES/ – The Agency Medicines and Medical Devices of Moldova (AMDM) announced that it revised in decrease prices of manufacturer of 1,440 pharmaceutical products. Thus, medicines got cheaper, on average, by 9.32 per cent.

According to data of AMDM, the decision to review prices was taken as a result of a 3 per cent appreciation of national currency (MDL) against euro and dollar.

According to cited source, cheaper preparations include antibiotics, nervous system medicines, dermatological preparations, vitamins, multivitamins, cardiovascular system preparations, anti – inflammatory and antirheumatic, antidiabetic, antitussive and expectorant, immunomodulatory, anti – asthmatic and painkillers.

The prices will drop to 215 preparations included in the list of social medicines. For these, the reduction will be 9.7 per cent.

The new prices will be taken into account by importers in the final cost of pharmaceuticals after exhaustion of existing stocks of medicines.

The national medicines catalogue of AMDM includes 4,190 medicines, now.

At last Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, asked to examine possibilities of lowering prices for medicines, noting that "there are prerequisites for cost lowering of 1,400 medicines on average by 9 per cent, as a result of appreciation of Moldovan leu on background of stabilisation of banking system and financial one".

The Prime Minister asked AMDM and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection to come up with a recalculation of price of some medicines for a week. "The process has already started, but I would like it to be hurried because data at least indicate a possible decrease in price of medicines, on average by 9 per cent," said Pavel Filip.
