Chisinau, 06 March /MOLDPRES/ – Several political parties announced rejecting proposal launched today by the leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, on support of a unique pro – European candidate for mayor office of Chisinau.
The announcements were made by representatives of the Liberal Party (PL), Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) and Platform for Dignity and Truth (PPDA).
"Following local elections in 2015, the City Hall of Chisinau was headed by Dorin Chirtoaca, re – elected for the third time as mayor general. Commencing September 2015, only two months after elections, PDM, Socialists’ party, Communists’ party, People's Party (PP) and Our Party (PN) joined Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) to block the activity of elected mayor, including by holding referendums to dismiss the mayor. Thus, the only "candidate" of Vladimir Plahotniuc can be agreed by PDM only with those parties mentioned above, with which he joined the CMC against Dorin Chirtoaca, elected mayor, PL, but also the citizens who voted for him," wrote representatives of PL on party's website.
At its turn, PAS announced not to negotiate with PDM on it, nor with others. "This is an exposed position many times and on various occasions. The "only pro-European" candidate that will actually support PDM at the mayoralty will be the Socialist candidate. The decision not to negotiate and not to cooperate with PDM and Socialists was adopted at PAS Congress in September 2017," said statement of the party.
Similarly, leader of PPDA, Andrei Nastase, said he would not accept negotiations with PDM to identify a joint candidate for local elections in Chisinau. He said that, "in fact, PDM intends to support socialist candidate into polls."
The head of PDM, Vlad Plahotniuc, announced today that the party would not submit its own candidate to local elections in Chisinau but would support a unique candidate getting support of all pro – European parties. He added that his party being ready to support even fierce critics to PDM in local elections, provided that the candidate to have support of the right – wing forces, can manage the city hall and defeat the socialists.
The mayor's chair of Chisinau remained vacant at beginning of current month after former mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca, announced that he resigned.
