Moldovan foreign minister meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State

Chisinau, 07 March /MOLDPRES/ – The intensification of strategic dialogue between Moldova and the USA, impetus for high – level political dialogue and main objectives at the level of sectoral cooperation were discussed today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, during the meeting with Deputy Assistant to US Secretary of State, Bridget Brink, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.

During the dialogue, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi highlighted the Government's determination to continue the process of implementation of democratic and structural reforms in the fields of justice, commercial – economic, fight against corruption etc. In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out that for the time being, both for Moldova and region as a whole, the support of partners in determined efforts to ensure democratic transformations in Moldova and region has been extremely important. "We are advocating to stimulate Moldova – US Strategic Dialogue and conduct energy security working group meetings during 2018, on law supremacy and the rule of law, as well as on bilateral consultations in other mutually beneficial areas," said Minister Ulianovschi.

The head of Moldovan diplomacy appreciated extremely valuable support offered by American partners in promoting the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and continuation of negotiations in format 5+2 with a view to finding a political solution for the Transnistrian issue.

Bridget Brink reiterated US support for finding a viable solution for settling the Transnistrian conflict, respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova. In this context, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of US appreciated the organisation of conference: Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine: Eastern Partnership –  Current Security Challenges, being an effective platform for the three states to analise the risks they face and develop strategies and joint actions to address them.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of US revealed measures undertaken by the Moldova’s Government to implement large – scale modernisation programmes in Moldova, noting importance of stepping up efforts to combat corruption, trafficking in human beings, reform of justice, economy, other sectors, which ultimately contribute to social – economic and political development of Moldova.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on other important issues in Moldovan – American cooperation agenda, such as inclusion of the draft resolution on boosting US bilateral relations with Moldova on the agenda of the United States Congress and support of Washington authorities for territorial integrity of Moldova, the authors being co – chairs of US Political Support Group for US Congress, David Price and Pete Olson.
