Igor Dodon noted that four candidacies had been put forward for the post of Chisinau general mayor and the candidacy of Ion Ceban was voted unanimously.
‘’He is a person prepared to hold this office. He knows the problems of Chisinau best of all,’’ Igor Dodon said.
For her part, PSRM leader Zinaida Grecianii said that ‘’these polls are very important, as it is about the country’s capital.’’
‘’I want to thank the colleagues for the confidence provided. This is a very responsible task, as Chisinau has many problems needing to be solved,’’ Ceban said.
Ion Ceban is the head of the PSRM faction in the Chisinau municipal council and spokesman for the head of state.
The new local elections in the Chisinau municipality will be held on 20 May 2018.
So far, the leader of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party, Andrei Nastase, has put up his candidacy for the Chisinau mayor office. At the same time, the Liberal Party put forward Valeriu Munteanu for this position. The Moldovan Democratic Party informed that it would back a joint pro-European candidate and the Action and Solidarity Party is to decide on whether it will put up a candidature for this position or not.
The former Chisinau mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca, resigned from the office of Chisinau mayor in last mid-February, being suspected of influence peddling in a file of paid parkings for abuse of office.
