Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/ - A man who triggered an explosion in the Moldovan capital is 50 years old and was born in Chisinau. The head of the General Police Inspectorate, Alexandru Pinzari, made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
Pinzari said that the blast took place after the suspect had let the explosive object fall or the latter would have fallen from his knapsack.
“Till present, the explosive object has not been identified. According to witnesses, the man would have entered a shop at about 11:00. He would have bought ten packets of cigarettes and went to the counter. The seller asked him to pay them and the man refused. At that moment, the explosive object fell from his hand or from knapsack, which exploded at the exit from the shop. The destructive power was directed to the street,” Pinzari noted.
The man died at the scene in the wake of the blast. “The second person who died was a man passing nearby. The man because of whom the explosion occurred has been earlier tried. At present, the adjacent place is out of any danger. At the same time, we can surely state that it is not about an attempt,” the IGP head said.
Two persons today died in the wake of an explosion which took place in a food store. The blast occurred on the crossroads of the Armeneasca and Mateevici Streets from Chisinau.
