Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/ - The right-wing parties refuse to hold dialogue between them before the electoral campaign, which will take place for the office of Moldovan capital’s mayor and make practically the same mistake as at the presidential polls. The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, today made statements to this effect at the end of the PDM weekly meeting.
According to Plahotniuc, the PDM representative sent letters to more pro-European parties, in order to agree on a meeting, during which they are to discuss the nomination of a single candidacy for the mayor office.
“We find out regretfully that, instead of an answer to our appeals, we see in media just impulsive statements on behalf of those to whom those letters were sent and the launch of a larger and larger number candidates on behalf of pro-European parties. Opinion polls show that the right-wing side has one real chance in the elections in Chisinau – to unite around a single candidate chosen by consensus or selected according to the rating in polls,” Plahotniuc said.
He noted that the parties which declare themselves pro-European do not refuse to discuss only with PDM, but also refuse to discuss even between them. “We notice the repeating, with almost full accuracy, of the mistakes which the right-wing parties made in the presidential elections; mistakes which led to the defeat of Maia Sandu and the victory of the Socialists at that polls. Their reactions no longer surprise us; yet, their arrogant attitude can repeatedly disappoint the centre-right-wing voters, as the citizens want to get involved in the struggle for Chisinau and not to participate in a competition of political vainglories,” Plahotniuc added.
New local elections will be held in the Chisinau and Balti municipalities on 20 May 2018, after the former mayors have resigned from office before the end of their mandates.
