Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s Ambassador to Russia Andrei Neguta will return to Moscow on the days to come and will resume his mandate of diplomat. Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi today made statements to this effect after a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Grigory Karasin.

Moldovan Ambassador to Russia Andrei Neguta was called to Chisinau for an indefinite period in last mid-December, after cases of harassment and intimidation by Russian authorities of official persons and political figures from Moldova had been notified.

At a news conference, the two officials said that they had discussed the Moldovan-Russian relations. “Unfortunately, a string of problems which need to be solved have been accumulated. We reiterated the need of settling more subjects, among which also the exclusion of cases of abuse against citizens and politicians from our country. Also, we spoke about the boosting of efforts of competent bodies as for the cooperation on subjects concerning the money from Russia which is laundered through Moldovan banks. A subject was also the signing of more agreements which would facilitate the work of our citizens in Russia and would contribute to fighting the illegal migration,” Ulianovschi said.

As for the Transnistrian conflict, Tudor Ulianovschi reiterated that it is necessary that all sides involved observe the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Moldova. “Also, we asked the Russian side to withdraw the troops and ammunitions from the left bank of Dniester, which would represent a major impetus to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict,” the official said.

For his part, Russian Deputy Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin noted that the Moldovan-Russian relations had not been stable in 2017. “The today’s discussions were quite complex. We established to settle the political problems. I reiterate that we are ready to consider all subjects and boost the bilateral dialogue,” Karasin said.

Russian Deputy Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin is on a working visit to Moldova on 20-22 March. The visit’s agenda includes meetings with the top Moldovan leadership, within which aspects of the bilateral relations will be discussed.
