Moldovan PM meets Russian deputy foreign affairs minister

Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ - The evolution of the Moldovan-Russian relations and the need to identify solutions to sensitive subjects on the bilateral agenda were discussed at a today’s meeting between Prime Minister Pavel Filip and State Secretary, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin, on a working visit to Chisinau.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that Moldova wants good relations with Russia; yet, these ties should be developed pragmatically, based on mutual respect between both states.
The officials stressed the importance of the present dialogue platforms, such as the consultations between the Foreign Affairs Ministries and the inter-governmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation, for boosting the bilateral cooperation.
In particular, the prime minister reiterated the importance of overcoming the problems dealing with the cases of abuse against Moldovan officials and investigation of the fraud on money laundering through the banking system of Moldova.
Another subject tackled at the meeting was the one on the Transnistrian problem settlement. The sides highlighted the importance of the protocols signed during 2017, which contribute to the improvement of the living standards of the citizens from the two banks of Dniester.
The prime minister reconfirmed Moldova’s position on the need to complete the process of withdrawal of the Russian troops and ammunitions from Moldova, in accordance with the international commitments. A progress in this respect might facilitate the process of identifying a solution to the Transnistrian issue.
