Ex – management of Moldovan bank to be judged for non – performing loans

Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ – Four persons in ex – management of Unibank will be judged to provide non-performing loans for a total of around €30 million.
According to the prosecutor’s office information and media communication service, it is about: ex – chairman and ex – deputy chairman of Unibank, the former head of finance department and legal division.
According to evidence, in 2013 – 2014, persons held positions of members of credit committee of the bank and unlawfully issued four loans to an economic agent, totaling $16 million and €15 million. The loans have not been reimbursed until present.
As a result, it was found that economic agent was founded by a citizen of Russia who has never been in Moldova.
The man acted in common with several Moldovans, who organised and drafted a proxy on behalf of a Russian citizen, which acted as a truck driver. Namely, driver is the person who registered the company the day before the first $8-million loan.
In this case, there were seized several assets of accused: cars and a dwelling.
If found guilty, suspects are at risk from 3 – 7 years in prison, with payment of caused damages and court costs.
The citizen of Russia and other persons who contributed to getting loans will be tried in a separate case. Also, suspects are to be announced in search.
