Moldovan government approves strategy of preventing, combating trafficking in human beings

Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ – The objectives and measures for upcoming five years to combat trafficking in human beings were drawn up in a new strategic document, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The national strategy of preventing and combating trafficking in human beings (SNPCTFU) for 2018 – 2023 was elaborated on basis of a comprehensive study and includes measures to prevent phenomenon, social protection and assistance of victims, prosecution and trial of cases. At the same time, the international cooperation in the field will be developed, national legal framework will be improved, capacities of the human resources will be strengthened and info management will be ensured.

The strategy will be implemented in two phases. The first action plan, for the years 2018 – 2020, includes over one hundred activities. These include: training border guards and other law enforcement officers to respond effectively to trafficking in human beings, adjusting the records database on criminal cases started on this type of crime and including in secondary school curriculum info on trafficking in human beings.

Also, the effective operation of placement centers and services for victims of trafficking, information, counseling services and guidance and training will be ensured.
