New structure to deal with modernization of national statistics system in Moldova

Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ - The government today approved the setting up of the National Statistics Council, composition and regulation of its work. The Council represents a consultative body in the statistics sector, established under the government in order to strategically develop and promote the official statistics.    

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the main powers of the new structure deal with the formulation of recommendations on the improvement of the national statistics system, in order to enhance the degree of meeting the requirements of users, as well as to promote the advanced concepts, methods and instruments in the statistics activity, to ensure the quality of the information supplied.    

The council will be made up of 11 members, representatives of the central statistic authority, specialty bodies of the central public administration which produce official statistics, of academic environment and one representative on behalf of the National Bank of Moldova, the employers and civil society each.
