Moldovan parliament makes amendments to Criminal Code

Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/ - The provisional release under legal restrictions will be applied by the court investigator or by a court for a period of 60 days at the most. The parliament today adopted a draft law to this effect in the first reading.
Under the draft, the measure of provisional release under legal restrictions could be issued for a period of 12 cumulative months at the most for persons suspected of offences punished with more than 12 years of imprisonment. The police body, in the area of which the defendant lives, will periodically check the observance by the defendant of his/her obligations and will notify the judge, if finding out infringements.
Also, the draft sets the fact that the release on bail could be issued for a period of 12 months at the most, and, respectively 24 cumulative months for the person accused of committing an offence for which the law sees a punishment for a term of more than 12 years.
The draft was worked out at a recommendation by the Constitutional Court and lawmakers are to consider it in the final reading.
