Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/ - Findings of the criminalistic examinations, carried out in laboratories of Moldova’s police, will be recognized internationally. The technical, criminalistic and legal expertise centre of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP) received the certificate of accreditation today.
At a news conference, IGP head Alexandru Pinzari said that the reception of the certificate of accreditation confirmed the fact that the works carried out in the laboratory meet the requirements of the international standards. ”It has not been easy. We have worked for six months and a lot of money was invested. We are grateful to the development partners and the people who worked to achieve this goal,” Pinzari said.
U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James Pettit noted that the programme had been initiated in 2012. “The criminalistic centre is ready to be accredited according to the international standards. The USA has invested 2.5 million dollars for equipments, courses and workshops. A huge job was done by the people working here. We appreciate very much the partnership we have with the police and we hope that the reforms will contribute to the citizens’ good and safety,” the official said.
“The recognition of the findings internationally will consolidate the capacities of the police. This Centre will guarantee the rule of law state and will positively influence the European integration process. We thank much the partners involved in this project,” Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Moldova Dafina Gercheva said.
For his part, the state secretary at the Interior Ministry, Dorin Purice, stressed that this centre would contribute to ensuring an impartial and fair justice. “The Centre is one the fewest institutions which has received this accreditation. We thank for the support provided to reform the police. In the near future, we still have to work on the DNA laboratory,” Purice specified.
The certificate of accreditation was received for a four-year period. Afterwards, the centre is to be re-evaluated.
