Turkey interested in strengthening commercial, economic relations with Moldova

Chisinau, 23 March /MOLDPRES/ - Turkey has showed interest in strengthening the commercial and economic relations and carrying out investment projects in Moldova. At an official meeting with Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici in Istanbul, Turkey’s Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekci reiterated that his country was speaking out for the consolidation of the commercial and economic ties and turning to good account mutual investment possibilities.
The Turkish minister noted that the commercial partnership with Moldova had a promising potential. The meeting of the two officials took place at the Moldova-Turkey Economic Forum, held in Istanbul.
Chiril Gaburici described as a success the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between both countries, which entered into force on 1 November 2016, and the reciprocal goal of which is to develop bilateral economic relations, extend the commercial exchanges, as well as create conditions for investments’ attraction, especially for developing mixed investments in the two states. According to the economics minister, for Moldova, it is important to attract foreign investments, especially in agriculture, food industry, energy sector, including in identifying alternative energy sources.
“The ensuring of the protection of investments and providing an attractive business climate with a string of facilities for potential investors are priorities of Moldova’s government for developing the national economy, ensuring stability and predictability of the business environment. The Turkish companies have developed a string of successful businesses, including the following sectors: food industry, mobile telephony, medicine and hotel industry. The Turkish business is quite active in Gagauzia too,” Chiril Gaburici said.
The sides stressed the importance of organizing meetings of the Moldovan-Turkish Inter-governmental Commission for bilateral cooperation in such fields as the commercial and economic, investments, industrial, development of small- and medium-sized enterprises, energy, transport, agriculture and environmental protection.
At the Moldova-Turkey Economic Forum, the Moldovan minister unveiled the government’s priorities in the sector of attracting investments, exports’ promotion, as well as development of the national economy. “The modernization of infrastructure, protection of investments, reducing administrative obstacles to the economic activity, facilitation of the cross-border trade, improvement of the fiscal and customs administration, cutting the number of control institutions, reduction of the number of permissive acts are the strategic goals on the agenda of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, in order to ensure a transparent and fair business environment,” Chiril Gaburici said.
During the forum, the sides signed an agreement on cooperation between the Moldovan Business People Association and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey.
