Chisinau, 24 March /MOLDPRES/- Over 180 countries, including Moldova, are now participating in the largest voluntary environmental movement of all time, Earth Hour. This means that for an hour the world is urged to give up electricity and give priority to activities in nature.
Earth Hour, an action that came this year at the 11th edition, is a symbol of respect for nature, an energy saving initiative, and a contribution to mitigating the consequences of climate change.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment urged citizens to mark the Earth Hour through waste recycling activities, to organize outdoor or bicycle races. Also, in order to increase civic responsibility and promote the use of natural resources, it is advisable to use renewable energy sources.
The ministry appealed to all public institutions, economic agents, all citizens who are not indifferent to the fate of Planet Earth, urging to support the initiative to disconnect electricity for an hour. This will tae place on 24 March, between 20:30-21:30.
The event was organized for the first time by World Wide Fund for Nature in 2007 in Australia. It was successful, bringing together over 2 million people.
In Moldova the event is marked since 2009. If today for one hour, all domestic consumers in our country would disconnect electricity, they would save about 278 thousand kW/hour.
