Monument in commemoration of one of oldest worship places to be erected in Chisinau

Chisinau, 18 July /MOLDPRES/ – The Government has approved today the decision on edifice of monument in Chisinau, commemorating one of the oldest religious sites in Moldovan capital, Church of Sfantul Ilie (Saint Elias).
The monument is planned to be erected on street Mitropolit G. Banulescu – Bodoni in Chisinau, on place where church Saint Elias (Ilinscaia) from the 18th century, demolished in 1960, notes the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC).
The expenses for setting project documentation on monument construction and execution of building/installation works, as well as arrangement of related land, will be covered by the Metropolitan Church of Chisinau and the whole of Moldova.
The Church of St. Elias is one of the oldest churches in Chisinau. After "The registry of forms of Lapusna county", the Church of Saint Elias existed until 1799, in wood, and in 1808 it was inhabited by stone, according to style of Moldavian churches, especially those in Chisinau: Buna – vestire (Annunciation), Sfinţii Arhangheli (Saint Archangels) or Catedrala Veche (Old Cathedral) and Nasterea Maicii Domnului (Birth of the Virgin Mary).
The church had the form of a ship, typical of the old churches of 17th century, and was endowed with a large number of old books, used in church worship, these being in Romanian, Slavonic and Greek.
