One-off childbirth allowance to be increased from 1 January 2025

Chisinau, Dec. 18 /MOLDPRES/- The one-off childbirth allowance will be increased to 21,350 lei from 1 January 2025. The government approved the decision today.

"The one-off childbirth allowance will be increased by 1,350 lei. Thus, its value will be 21,350 lei. In 2021, it was 9,459 lei, so the government practically doubled the allowance. Starting from this year, this allowance, as well as other benefits for families with children, are proactively provided to beneficiaries, without the need to file the application and deal with bureaucracy," Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu told the cabinet meeting.

According to estimates by the National Social Insurance House, about 33,054 children will receive the allowance in 2025.

Financial resources of about 710 million lei are foreseen for the payment of the allowance, an amount that was included in the draft Law on the State Budget for 2025.

Families with children also benefit from other state support measures: a monthly allowance of 1,000 lei for all children up to the age of two, regardless of whether the parents are insured or not, which will benefit 72,000 children in 2025, and a monthly allowance for raising a child up to the age of three, the amount being determined according to the parent's income.
