Chisinau, 18 July /MOLDPRES/ – The appreciation of Moldovan leu (MDL) against US dollar ($) in the first half of July was due to surplus of foreign currency accumulated at the end of June, the BNM’s information and media communication service has reported.
"According to preliminary data, in June, net demand for foreign currency by economic agents was covered by 106.5 per cent by net foreign currency offer from individuals, a specific evolution of this indicator in summer periods. Thus, at the end of June, MDL strengthened against USD by about 1.0 per cent," specified BNM.
Also, the exchange rate of MDL against European currency (€) remained virtually unchanged, this dynamics being determined by evolution of euro against US dollar on international markets, according to NBM.
Since the beginning of July, USD has been cheaper by around MDL 0,17.
For 19 July, the BNM has set an official exchange rate of MDL 16,67 for an American dollar, with MDL 0,01 less than today. And the single European currency will lose MDL 0,17 of the price reaching MDL 19,37. Cheaper by MDL 0,03 will be on 19 July the Romanian leu (RON), worth MDL 4,16. And, Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH) and Russian ruble (RUR) will cost, as on 18 July, MDL 0,63 and MDL 0,26, respectively.
