Moldova to take over Croatia's experience in EU integration process

Chisinau, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will take over Croatia’s experience in the European integration process and will benefit from assistance in the justice reform sector. This will be possible based on a memorandum on cooperation between the two states, signed by Justice Minister Victoria Iftodi and her Croatian counterpart Dražen Bošnjaković.

„The signing of a memorandum on multidimensional cooperation in justice will allow Moldova taking over Croatia’s experience in the European integration process, being a unique occasion to learn from the progress and obstacles the Croatian state was facing,” Victoria Iftodi said.

The justice minister of Croatia expressed the Croatian authorities’ willingness to provide Moldova with assistance in efforts to improve the justice act.

According to the Moldovan justice minister, the two states will cooperate in the field of reformation and modernization of the judicial system, working out normative acts and taking over the experience in terms of adjusting the national legislation to the European standards. Also, the institutions will collaborate as to the management of penitentiaries and organization of the probation service.

Victoria Iftodi is on a working visit to Croatia on 19-20 July, at an invitation by her Croatian counterpart. During the visit, the justice minister met also Prosecutor General of Croatia Dražen Jelenić. The two officials discussed, in particular, the issue of preventive arrest. Dražen Jelenić said that this problem had been solved in Croatia due to the enforcement of the European jurisprudence in the sector, and especially the one of the European Court of Human Rights, as well as due to the efficient communication with the public on the importance of other preventive measures than the arrest.
