Young man from north Moldova city dies in the wake of blast

Chisinau, 23 July /MOLDPRES/ - A 19-years-old man died on 22 July evening, after a grenade had exploded in his hand. The case took place in a house in the northern Balti municipality.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the press officer of the Balti-based Police Inspectorate, Eugenia Molceanov, said that a 17-years-old minor had been also hit by the blast, with her face and hands injured.

„The family rented the house 2-3 days ago. While cleaning the house, the young man found the grenade in cupboard; rashly, he activated the grenade and it exploded. The young man died at the hospital during a surgical operation because of serious wounds. At the same time, the 17-year-old girl is in the hospital in a stable condition,’’ Molceanov said.

A team of sappers came on the spot to check the rooms and see whether there are other ammunitions in the dwelling. No other suspect objects were found following the verifications.

Law-enforcers opened a criminal file, within which they are to establish all circumstances of the case. The person to whom the explosive belonged is  unknown for the time being.
