Chisinau, 23 July /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu has appreciated the results achieved by the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) and gave assurances that the parliament would provide every legislative support to strengthen the independence of the Centre. The speaker made statements to this effect after a summing-up meeting of CNA, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

„We will back all initiatives able to turn the fight against corruption more efficient. At the same time, we need results and we want to see the effects produced by the Crime Assets Recovery Agency, law on integrity warners, other laws passed to prevent and combat corruption,’’ Andrian Candu said.

CNA director Bogdan Zumbreanu made an assessment of CNA’s work in the first months of 2018. He noted that the goal set by the Centre and his mandate had been also to intervene incisively, including in sectors where citizens face various abuses on behalf of civil servants. Zumbreanu said that CNA’s activity was aimed at combating and preventing corruption in the zones where citizens are confronting blockages and conditions to offer bribe.

On the concerned period, CNA discovered 477 corruption offences, out of which 281 in the Chisinau municipality. Local public authorities are the worst hit by corruption, followed by the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry and Interior Ministry.

In the first six months of 2018, the Crime Assets Recovery Agency levied a distraint on 917 assets worth over 54million lei. More than 600 draft laws subjected to anticorruption expertise were registered in the corruption prevention sector, 11,000 civil servants were trained and 2,869 integrity criminal records were issued.
