Sixty per cent of corruption offences committed in Moldova in first half of 2018 recorded in Chisinau

Chisinau, 24 July /MOLDPRES/ - Officers of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) in the first half of 2018 documented 477 corruption offences, - by 11 ones more against the same period of the year before. Most of them were particularly serious offences.    

Among the settlements worst hit by corruption remain the Chisinau municipality, where 281 offences were found out, followed by the Balti city, with 35 corruption cases, Comrat, Cahul, Criuleni and Ungheni.

Most often, infringements were committed by Local Public Authorities, Health, Ministry, Interior Ministry, state enterprises. Less corruption offences were recorded at the Economics Ministry, Customs Service and Agriculture Ministry.

According to data by CNA, in the first half of this year, 42 mayors and deputy mayors, 30 health care sector employees and 17 police inspectors were detained for corruption deeds.  

Damage worth over 25 million lei was ascertained within files opened in the first six months of 2018, - twice as much against the same period of the last year.  

As a result of parallel financial investigations carried out, distraint was levied on assets worth about 55 million lei, in order to recover assets coming from offences.
