No Moldovan citizens hit by fires in Greece, Foreign Ministry says

Chisinau, 24 July /MOLDPRES/ - No Moldovan citizens have been hit by fires in Greece.  

According to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE), Moldova’ Embassy in Athens monitors the evolution of the situation in terms of fires occurred in Greece and provides every needed support to the fellow countrymen in the risk zone. So far, no Moldova’s citizen has been identified to suffer in the wake of fires. At the same time, MAEIE urges Moldovan citizens to abstain from travelling to the zone hit by fires.  

According to Moldova’s Ambassador to Greece Anatol Vangheli, no appeal for medical aid has been registered on behalf of Moldovan citizens. “Seven applications on the issuance of travel documents in exchange of the identity papers burned in the fires zone have been recorded. The diplomatic mission took the decision to issue temporary acts free of charge,” Ambassador Vangheli said.   

The employees of Moldova’s Embassy in Greece are in permanent contact with the police station from the region Rufina and Nea Makri, as well as with the emergency line opened by the Greek authorities. “We were informed that no details are available on the victims identified. The Embassy is in permanent touch with the authorities and morgue in the eventuality of identifying Moldova’s citizens among victims/ those hit,” Anatol Vangheli noted.   

The Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry reminds that Moldova’s citizens from Greece may ask for consular assistance at the emergency phone number of the Embassy: +30 699 793 9458 or on the Facebook page of the Embassy.  

The latest data shows that 49 persons died and another about 160 were injured in the wake of fires nearby Athens.
