Leaders of banking performance ranking maintain position in last June, Moldovan analytical centre says

Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Expert-Grup Independent Analytical Centre today published a banking performance ranking at the situation from last June. The ranking continues to be led by three banks of systemic importance for the national banking and financial system, respectively Moldova Agroindbank, followed by MobiasBanca and Moldindconbank. Also, against a background of enhanced performances, another two banks (ProCreditBank and BRC (Romanian Commercial Bank) Chisinau) register a good advancement against the months before.

According to the Expert-Group Centre, in late June 2018, “the banking sector in continuation tends to be characterized by an excess of liquidity, which hardly finds its counterpart in the real economy. The main financial and prudential indicators register high values, both at the aggregate level and in other cases, at the individual level.” The sufficiency of risk-weighted assets remains at the level of over 30 per cent in the entire banking sector, which determines a sufficient reserve of funds for the management of eventual shocks.

The banks’ liquidity remains much over the limits regulated, as well as the ones recommended by the banking practice, which fosters the appearance of higher and higher opportunity costs. Even so, the banks continuously accumulate profit, based on a solid bank margin, positive differences of currency exchange rate and by actively using the monetary policies instruments, economists said. Thus, in mid 2018, the profit gained by the banks amounts to about 936 million lei.

The crediting activity registers a slight boosting, yet, insufficient for the improvement of the duty of banks’ intermediation. The volume of new loans provided tends to increase both for the ones in Moldovan lei and those in foreign currency. In late last June, the overall stock of loans stood at 33.2 billion lei. Experts said that the consumption loans borrowed by private persons had a bigger and bigger contribution.

At the same time, the stock of credits provided to private people for purchasing/construction of real estate has recorded an increase of about 400 million lei since early 2018, which shows the first results of the First Home programme, Expert-Grup said. The indexes specific for the quality of the portfolio of credits “continues to improve and the degree of coverage with commissions continues to be adequate.”
