Chisinau, 30 July /MOLDPRES/ – Almost 40 per cent of transport stops in Chisinau municipality require renovation. The announcement was made today by the deputy head of Public Transport Department, Vitalie Butucel, during a weekly meeting of Chisinau City Hall services.

"Many of public transport stops were renovated, but they were later vandalised. In 2007, the City Hall signed a contract with EPA Media SRL, a company responsible for construction and arrangement of public transport stops. Totally, works amounted to €2.5 million. In 2014, the company went into insolvency and contract signed with it expired in January 2017 and it was extended by five years. It is necessary to set up a commission responsible for assessing the status of public transport stops, adherence to contractual conditions, keeping track of procurement of new pavilions and repairing existing ones," said Butucel.

At his turn, head of City Hall Legal Department, Valeriu Bogdan, specified that the agreement concluded with EPA Media SRL could be renegotiated. "The current contract provisions are not favourable to capital. We will discuss with representatives of company how we can change contract terms, and if we get a refusal, we will cancel the document," said Bogdan.

"We are in the situation when there is money to carry out rehabilitation works, but we can not intervene. In order to clarify and resolve the situation, it will be created a working group, led by Deputy Mayor, Nistor Grozavu. We need conditions and contracts that are in the interest of the citizens and for city benefit," said interim mayor of Chisinau, Ruslan Codreanu.

There are almost 300 public transport waiting stops in Moldovan capital.
