Social housing to be built in Cantemir, Cahul, Cimislia districts

Chisinau, 31 July /MOLDPRES/- In Cantemir, Cahul and Cimislia districts, social housing will be built. A decision in this regard was taken recently at a meeting of the Supervisory Committee of the Implementation Unit of the Housing Construction Project for Disadvantaged Groups II.

“The social housing construction project is an opportunity for young people in the budget sector who want to build their future home. Through this project, the government aims to efficiently overcome an old challenge - housing with low-income citizens, people with special needs, families with many children, young specialists who cannot afford to buy a home today. The fact that more and more local authorities express their interest in participating in the project is gratifying," Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee Liviu Volconovici said.

Iunona Lungul, Manager of the Phase II Implementation Unit of the Social Dwelling Construction Project, said that "for the objectives in Cantemir, Cahul and Cimislia, the design documentation was completed, verified and submitted to the expertise, the technical expertise of the existing buildings proposed for reconstruction under the project was carried out.” “Cost of construction works and related services was calculated. We are ready to launch tender procedures and then contracting general contractor," Lungul said.

By late 2019, 91 social apartments will be built in the three districts in the south of the country.

To achieve the second phase of the construction project of social housing in our country, the Council of Europe Development Bank provides Moldova with a loan of 20.4 million euros, for up to 20 years.  In the Phase II of the project, about 700 social homes will be built for 2,500 low income people.

Social housing is distributed by special commissions set by district councils under Regulation which stipulates the terms and conditions of management, eligibility criteria and categories. Social apartments are offered in rent, under a contract with the local authority.
