Moldovan premier calls for redistribution of unsupported budget places to IT specialties

Chisinau, 01 August /MOLDPRES/ – At the beginning of the Government meeting today, Prime Minister Pavel Filip spoke about the growing demand for young people choosing to study in the field of information and communication technology when applying to universities, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Following the results of first admission stage, the State Technical University of Moldova (UTM) has 3 candidates for a budget seat, which is 677 applications for 245 places offered by state.
"I am pleased that young people choose to pursue their engineering studies in this field, which is in fact a field of the future, and it means nothing but that these young people are creative and inventive in the job they embrace – that is exactly what Moldova needs," said PM.
In this context, Pavel Filip asked the officials of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) to initiate all necessary procedures for redistribution of unpaid budgets from other specialties to IT so that more young people have the opportunity to study in this area with state funding.
The PM also specified that it is necessary to prepare young people for labour market in areas which currently are requested. In order to support info sector, it was launched the first virtual IT park, which now houses about 250 residents of total IT enterprises in Moldova, in the amount of 400 companies.
