Moldova becomes stronger in foreign relations - speaker says

Chisinau, 2 August /MOLDPRES/- Moldova becomes stronger in its international relations, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu said yesterday, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The speaker said that Moldova is no longer weak or vulnerable, we have pragmatic external relations based on respect and cooperation. "We are stronger thanks to the support we have from our partners," he said.

In this context, he recalled the resolution in the US Congress, whereby the United States backs the territorial integrity and political sovereignty of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia, and reaffirms its support for democratically elected governments and the people of the three countries. Also, he referred to the creation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine, which will convene in the first meeting in Georgia in September. Also, the 11th session of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly will take place in Chisinau.

Referring to the energy security field, Candu noted that a number of actions have been carried out lately to make the Republic of Moldova energy-independent. He approached the two projects related to the electricity interconnection works in Romania and Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline.

Also, the speaker said that at present, over 65 per cent of exports are to EU countries. The economy of our country is no longer dependent only on a market, dependent on political decisions. We have opened new outlets in the Middle East, the free trade agreement with China is being completed, the one with Turkey and the EU is already being carried out.
