Chisinau, 02 August /MOLDPRES/ – Four communes in Telenesti district will implement a project to improve household waste management, supported by the French Embassy in Moldova. The solutions were presented today in a press conference with participation of mayors of beneficiary localities.

The Moldovan – French project will be implemented in communes Verejeni, Ratus, Banesti and Chitcani Vechi. The authorities in these villages proposed to improve waste management, clean up waste dumps, producing compost and fertilisers.

"It is an unusual project. We have also developed joint Moldovan – French programmes, but this is the first with participation of local authorities. The French partners want to offer all competition on it," said representative of the French Embassy in Chisinau, Martine Zejgman.

The localities in Telenesti will be supported by French company Savoie Dechets. It is a public waste management organisation specialising in sorting and recovery of domestic and similar waste. "We will organise training and exchange of experience for specialists from our partner localities to be able to document with effective practices in this field and implement them successfully at home. There will be studied different technical and economic solutions by experts of company as to find the right one," said Director of Savoie Dechets, Pierre Tournier.

For this decentralised cooperation project for 2018, French company provided a budget of €30,000, which is to be updated in 2019.

"The wealth of a state is primarily health of citizens. We await many achievements from this project, which will improve the quality of people's lives as well as environmental conditions. A sanctuary is primarily a healthy and strong locality," said Mayor of Verejeni, Stefan Barca.

The project in Telenesti district is expected to be completed in 2019 by implementation of a tri – composting platform for bio – waste contained in household waste. According to French partners, if this project is successful, it might be extended to other localities of Moldova.
