Chisinau, 02 August /MOLDPRES/ – The head of Radiology and Imaging Section of Institutul Mamei si Copilului (Mother and Child Institute) and a radiologist were detained today in a corruption case. In similar file, there were escorted two other resident doctors to the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) for hearings.
According to the CNA’s information and media communication service, head of the Radiology and Imaging Section would have organised a scheme of extorting money from persons which were subject to prioritised investigations without prior appointment. The money was passed throughout its employees.
In the criminal case, dozens of cases of money transfers were identified by the patients to department employees. In turn, the employees transferred the sums to the chief and the latter to the head of department.
The department has three Rontgen devices and a CT scan, and a single investigation, performed at one of the medical devices, ranges from MDL 200 to MDL 500 per patient, with a daily flow of 30 – 40 investigated children. Thus, at the end of the day, the money accumulated following investigations for cash from the four apparatuses reached the head of the Radiology and Imaging Section of the Mother and Child Institute.
Currently, the searches continue.
