Chisinau, 3 August /MOLDPRES/- Chisinau city hall, UNICEF Moldova and several NGOs today signed a memorandum of understanding on social protection of children and family.
The document was signed by the acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu, Secretary General of the Alliance of NGOs in the social protection of children and family Carolina Buzdugan and country representative of UNICEF in Moldova Desiree Jongsma.
“This memorandum is an important step for us. The child protection system was reformed for 20 years. However, we have arrears in terms of street children's protection and more deficiencies in the localities of Chisinau. That is why we want an effective field direction that responds to the needs of children in difficulty. The Memorandum states that consultants will be employed within the Municipal Directorate for the Protection of Child's Rights, including an international consultant who will assess the work of the Directorate, the existing regulations and subsequently a roadmap for the Chisinau Municipal Council to determine the actions to improve the situation. We need an analysis on adoption, child care conditions and psychological counseling for families,” he said.
Carolina Buzdugan thanked the partners for this beautiful initiative. "We hope these actions will lead to strengthening of the child protection system in the capital. We want to contribute to improving the existing conditions. We still have a lot to do, we know there are challenges, so we want to set the risks and have an effective policy implementation plan,” Buzdugan said.
“We hope to be the beginning of a beautiful collaboration. It is a great opportunity to improve the policies in the field. Within this partnership, we are ready to offer all the necessary support to enhance child protection,” Desiree Jongsma said.
The document was signed after the Chisinau Municipal Council approved the memorandum of understanding for the purpose of mutual cooperation within the project "Evaluation of effectiveness of the Municipal Directorate for Child Rights Protection".
