Decision on creation of Naval Agency published in Official Journal of Moldova

Chisinau, 03 August /MOLDPRES/ – The decision on the creation of the Naval Agency (AN) of Moldova was published today in the Official Journal of Moldova.

The Agency will be created by merging Public Institution "Capitania Portului Giurgiulesti" (The captainship of Giurgiulesti port) with State enterprise "Registrul Naval" (The naval registry). It will have the mission to ensure the implementation of state policies in the field of shipping and monitoring of compliance by natural and legal persons with regulatory framework in it.

The AN will be subordinated to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure (MEI) and operate with central and local public authorities as well as international institutions. Its role will be the continuous development of Moldova's capacities to manage as many maritime and inland waterways as possible, as to contribute substantially to development of national economy, and maritime transport is an important factor in context of economic cooperation on a global scale.

Taking into account the importance of maritime and inland waterway transport at Community level, EU encourages their development throughout actions aimed at modernising maritime transport infrastructures, harmonising specific legislation and procedures.
