Moldovan prime minister affirms corruption can be combated with common effort of all

Chisinau, 03 August /MOLDPRES/ – "We will be successful and have results in fighting corruption when a joint effort is made between all actors: Government, local public administration, civil society and business environment". The statement was made today by Prime Minister Pavel Filip at the working meeting of Monitoring group 2 of National Strategy for Integrity and Anticorruption 2017 – 2020.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the event was attended by members of Government, district heads, representatives of development partners, business environment and civil society.

The PM said that the implementation of the Strategy is essential for elimination of corruption. Taking this objective over recent two years, Moldova adopted a comprehensive legal framework within preventing and combating corruption. Also, independent institutions also function: National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), National Integrity Authority (ANI), Agency for Recovery of Criminal Goods (ARBI), Prevention and Combating Money Laundering Service (SPCSB).

"The efficiency of these institutions' functioning, but also implementation of the legal framework, is our common effort, our will. We can achieve results only when we all get involved, each institution can not change things," said Pavel Filip.

During the meeting, there were presented and examined nine sector anticorruption plans, but also the Monitoring and Evaluation Report upon implementation of Strategy in 2017. It was found that out of 43 planned actions, there were carried out 9, 33 – partially completed, and 1 is still to be implemented.

The civil society representatives made a number of recommendations for effective implementation of strategy's provisions and, among other things, mentioned the importance of increasing access to public info, implementing sectoral plans, and organising public consultations to assess their fulfillment.

The National Integrity and Anticorruption Strategy 2017 – 2020 was adopted on 30 March 2017 and it was developed by support of national and international experts, civil society and development partners. An important contributor to this process was senior EU anticorruption adviser, Pawel Wojtunik.
