Bypass road of Moldova's western city inaugurated

Chisinau, 03 August /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip participated today at inauguration of Ungheni city bypass. About 36,000 persons in the region will benefit from a EU funded road of 7.71 kilometer long.

According to the government's communication and protocol department, the Premier thanked the European partners for their assistance. "The work on this bypass has lasted long. So is our way to EU: long, complicated, sinuous. But we chose this way, as it is, maybe it is not the easiest, but for us it is the only one. We do not have a way to bypass, we go clear and firm on this road to EU," said Pavel Filip.

Chief of EU Delegation in Chisinau, Peter Michalko, said the new road would connect Moldova more closely with EU. "The new ring road will improve the connection with EU border, reducing the distance by 11 km. It will strengthen the link between Moldovan and EU citizens, facilitate trade and business," said the official.

The construction of Ungheni ring road cost more than €10.7 million, of which €8.6 million is an EU grant, and about MDL 40 million (€2 million) are from Road Fund (FR).

PM Pavel Filip reiterated that infrastructure is one of the three major priorities approved in 2018 by Government decision. "By investing in infrastructure, we are building a modern country, a European country. With reforms we launched recently, I am sure we will have enough financial capacity to have the necessary infrastructure not only for citizens but also for investors, business people," he said.
