Moldova's exports reached historic maximum, 68.5 percent of domestic goods entering EU market

Chisinau, 7 August /MOLDPRES/- The European Union share in Moldovan exports reached a new historic high, 68.5 percent of Moldovan products were delivered in the first half of this year on the Community market. National Bureau of Statistics Bureau (BNS) today announced that exports of goods to EU countries increased by 38.1% in January-June, compared to the similar period of 2017.

Moldovan exporters delivered 900- million dollar-goods to the EU market out of total exports of 1315.2 million dollars in six months this year. The Community market has become the main market for the sale of Moldovan goods after the signing of the Free Trade Agreement with the EU. Thus if according to BNS data, in the first half of 2010- 33.7% of the domestic goods reached the Community market, in 2014 - 49%, then in January-June 2015 - the share of 63% was exceeded.

It is the sixth consecutive year in which the share of Moldovan goods exports to the EU is on the rise, and many economists expected an increase of up to 70 percent.

Three EU member states, namely Romania, Italy and Germany, were on the top three positions in the ranking of partner countries in foreign trade, according to results for the first half. Romania strengthened its leadership position with a share of 26.34 percent compared to 24.38 percent in the first half of 2017.

CIS countries were present in the exports of Moldova with a share of 15.8 percent (21.1 percent - in January-June 2017), which corresponds to a value of 208.3 million US dollars. Exports to the countries fell by 4.0 percent in the first half of the year compared to the same period of the previous year.

Official statistics show that in January-June 2018, exports amounted to 1 billion 315.2 million dollars,  higher than that achieved in the same period of the previous year by 27.9 percent. Exports of domestic goods amounted to 877.1 million dollars, up by 35.1 percent against January-June 2017.

The Ministry of Economy forecasts an increase in exports this year by 15 percent, to 2 billion 790 million dollars.
