Chisinau, 07 August /MOLDPRES/ – Commemorating the tragic events in Georgia which took place in 2008, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE) expresses its feelings of solidarity with the Georgian people, while reiterating its strong support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
The military aggression against Georgia in 2008 was a grave violation of the fundamental principles of international law, in particular by brutal interference in the domestic affairs of another state, use of force in relations between countries and the gross violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a Member State of the UN. Following military intervention against the Georgian people, Georgia lost more human lives and suffered significant material and territorial damage.
Moldova has always condemned the interference of any state in internal affairs of another country in any form, opting for equal partnership relations, respecting independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, starting from international law and provisions of the UN Charter. An example of this policy also serves the UN General Assembly Resolution: "The complete and unconditional withdrawal of foreign military forces from the territory of the Republic of Moldova", voted by the Member States of the United Nations on 22 June 2018, at the proposal of Moldova.
