Chisinau, 9 August /MOLDPRES/- Employees of the National Patrol Inspectorate (INP) will take a string of actions to prevent road accidents in August, when there is a high flow of traffic, due to holidays.
INP head Pavel Apostol said that in August, there is an increasing number of road accidents. "Most accidents are due to over speeding, drunk driving and drivers falling asleep. In order to reduce the number of accidents, INP will take several measures. If we are talking about the prevention of excessive speed driving, several control filters will be created and mixed test teams will be set up. At the same time, the "White nights" campaign will be conducted to combat drunk driving and more systematic checks will be carried out,” he said.
For his part, INP legal service head Veaceslav Sârbu presented the new legislative amendments, passed in July by Parliament, which provide for harsher punishments for drunk drivers.
"If the driver is found drunk driving, the detective agent will immediately lift his driving license without providing him with a provisional one. Subsequently, the court will, within 3 days, expose the driver's guilt. Also, drivers who have been drunk driving and those who have been deprived of their right to drive by court decision will be obliged to attend an anti-alcohol and anti-drug program,” Sarbu said.
According to INP data, over 1,350 road accidents occurred in the first seven months of the year, resulting in 146 dead and 1,645 injured.
