Taxi companies of Moldova to be required to have cars adapted for transport of persons with locomotor disabilities

Chisinau, 09 August /MOLDPRES/ – The persons with locomotor disabilities will be able to import easier means of transport. They will have the right to import a vehicle every 7 years without paying tax and customs duties. The subject was discussed today within the working group set up at the direction of Prime Minister Pavel Filip, following more complaints from persons with locomotory disabilities, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

On it, there will be made changes to the legislation. Currently, only persons with severe locomotor disabilities have facilities to import cars, if the means of transport is granted free of charge (donation) and adapted properly. The project will soon be finalised and presented to Executive for approval.

There is also to be created a specialised technical centre for reuse of cars, according to the needs of persons with special needs.

The working group also asked The National Auto Transport Agency (ANTA) to oblige taxi companies to have cars adapted for transport of persons with locomotor disabilities.

The actions to equip public buildings with special ramps for people with special needs will also be intensified. At present, at the entrances to Government building, streets A. Puskin and Mitropolit G. Banulescu – Bodoni, there are carried out works for installation of special elevators for persons with locomotor disabilities. They are due to be put in use in September 2018.

There are around 15,000 persons with locomotor disabilities in Moldova.
