40 cases of measles recorded after outbreak of camp in Ungheni

Chisinau, 14 August /MOLDPRES/- 40 suspected and confirmed measles cases have been recorded so far, following the outbreak at a camp in Morenii Noi village, Ungheni district.
According to the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP), 20 cases - confirmed measles in children. They are from the following localities: Beşghioz - 6 children, Copceac - 3, Cazaclia - 3, Cairaclia - 5, Şicovăţ - 2 and Morenii Noi - 1. The age of children varies between 2 and 14 years.
At the same time, out of the 40 cases, 25 were diagnosed by the primary health care professionals and those of ANSP. Only three children have been vaccinated with a single dose of measles vaccine, and the other children did not receive the vaccine due to their belonging to a religious confession.
Cases are recorded in: Ceadâr-Lunga district - 28 cases (Beşghioz, Copceac, Cazaclia); Vulcanesti district - 3 cases; Ungheni - 3 cases (Şicovăţ, Morenii Noi) and Taraclia district - 6 cases.
Epidemiologists remind the population that measles is a highly contagious disease and is spreading rapidly.
Measles can only be prevented by vaccination. Vaccination is free for all eligible people.
