Chisinau, 14 August /MOLDPRES/- During a working visit to India, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, had a meeting with representatives of the Moldovan community living in this country, the MAEIE’s press service has reported.

During the dialogue with Moldovan citizens there were discussed internal evolutions in the country, measures taken by authorities to modernize and reform the social, economic, educational sector, etc. A special topic was the intention of the government to open an embassy in New Delhi.

Countrymen appreciated the Moldovan authorities' intention to open an Embassy next year in New Delhi, which will boost the Moldovan-Indian relations and those of other countries in the region. In this respect, the Moldovan official noted: “I consider it imperative to expand our country's diplomatic network on all continents.  I want to increase the visibility of the Republic of Moldova in Asia, which is why I advocate the opening of a diplomatic mission in New Delhi, which will create the necessary prerequisites to fully use the existing economic potential in bilateral relations, provide quality and prompt consular services and achieve mutually beneficial support in various international structures.”

Most Moldovans residents of India have opened small and medium enterprises in the trade of services, others are married to Indian citizens and others plan to develop a business with capital in our country or in India, due to diplomatic agreements initiated by Ulianovschi in New Delhi.

The representatives of our community in India have expressed their intention to import drugs in Moldova or to export agricultural products to India, but in the absence of bilateral trade-economic or legal agreements and under the conditions of high customs duties it is difficult to penetrate in the Asian region.

At the same time, the current stage of the Moldovan-Indian relations, as well as the priority directions of cooperation that the government of Chisinau intends to promote and negotiate with the authorities of India, has been approached.
