Foreign minister affirms Moldova has to offer goods to agricultural market in India

Chisinau, 14 August /MOLDPRES/ – The possibilities of increasing the trade – economic exchanges of Moldova and India, especially in agricultural and agro – industrial fields, by creating and facilitating export – import terms and respecting the international legal framework, organising business forums, and other commercial initiatives, as well as the interest of Moldova in deepening bilateral relations in agricultural and wine industry, have been the topics discussed in New Delhi at the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, with the Minister of Agriculture and Welfare of Farmers of India, Radha Mohan Singh, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.

During the meeting, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi specified that Government of Moldova would appreciate the Indian contribution to promotion of Moldovan goods, especially fruits and vegetables, throughout business missions and participation in bilateral business forums, attracting potential investors and promoting exports. "India represents an important market for export with a high potential for export of fresh and processed vegetable production from Moldova", outlined the Moldovan Foreign Minister.

Radha Mohan Singh also pointed out: "The Indian side is interested in capitalising on Moldovan agricultural market, emphasising that all necessary actions are currently being undertaken so as to finalise procedures for initiating the import of fruits and vegetables from Moldova based on international field legislation as to respect phytosanitary requirements, priority given to import of apples".

Also, Indian official showed interest in possibility of importing Moldovan wine to Indian market and facilitating the organisation of events promoting wine products of Moldova, including the World Food Festival, in New Delhi.

In this context, the interlocutors welcomed the recent signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the chambers of commerce (CCI) of two states, expressing their conviction that the document would create new opportunities for bilateral cooperation, including in agricultural field.

At present, agricultural products exported to India include legumes with pods, wheat and meslin; and from India, there are imported dried fruits, nuts, spices, tea, coffee, cereals, sugar, meat.
