Moldovan foreign minister meets representatives of World Jewish Congress

Chisinau, 16 August /MOLDPRES/- The implementation of the action plan on the implementation of the Declaration of the Moldovan parliament on the acceptance of the Report of the International Commission on Holocaust, especially concerning the priority areas of education, memory of victims of the Holocaust, anti-Semitism and improvement of the national legislation on the matter were examined by Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi and Robert Singer, Vice President of the World Jewish Congress, on a working visit to Moldova, the MAEIE’s press service has reported.
The sides approached some aspects of international cooperation of Moldova, in particular within the International Alliance of Holocaust Remembrance (IHRA), relations with the World Jewish Congress and other relevant organizations.
In this context, Ulianovschi thanked the official for the support in achieving the goals set out in the action plan.
“We have a very good and lasting cooperation with Congress and we are glad to see its representatives in Moldova and to discuss the actions we take together to meet the commitments set by the Moldovan authorities”.
For his part, Singer praised the Moldovan authorities’ commitment to build a society in the spririt of tolerance, non-discrimination and respect for the rights of citizens of all ethnic groups. He confirmed the Congress willingness to support Moldova's efforts in implementing the reform agenda.
We remind that in July 2016, the Moldovan parliament adopted the Declaration on the acceptance of the final report of the International Commission on Holocaust, chaired by Elie Wiesel, and in January 2017 the government approved an action plan on its implementation. Annually, on 27 January, Moldova marks the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Founded in Geneva in 1936, the World Jewish Congress is an international federation of Jewish communities and organizations based in New York. The organization is represented in over 100 countries, with a special advisory status to the United States Economic and Social Council.
