Moldovan writer celebrates 80th anniversary

Chisinau, 17 August /MOLDPRES/- Poet, prose writer and playwright Andrei Burac, winner of several literary awards, is today 80 years.
He was born on 17 August 1938 in Cârnăţeni, Causeni district. He graduated from the Tighina College of Medicine (1955), the Medical Institute in Chisinau (1964) and the Higher Literature Courses in Moscow (1977). He worked as a surgeon in Căuşeni and Chişinău.
His poems have been translated into Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Armenian, Swedish, Greek, English and so on. He is the author of the film "Be Happy, Julia" directed by departed Iacob Burghiu, a film that was bought in 29 countries.
Burac was awarded the "Mihai Eminescu" Medal (1998), the Poetry Prize of the Writers Union of Moldova (1998), the UNESCO Award "For Propagation of Good and Culture" (drama, 2002), the Excellency Prize for Contributing to the Development of National Drama, awarded by the National Theater "Satiricus-I.L. Caragiale "in Chisinau (2004) and other awards.
