Law on energy efficiency published in Official Journal of Moldova

Chisinau, 17 August /MOLDPRES/- The law on energy efficiency and presidential decree on its promulgation were published today in the Official Journal of Moldova.

The law regulates activities aimed at optimizing energy production and use, increasing the country's energy security and diminishing the negative impact of the energy sectors on the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The document also sees that operators of electricity, gas and oil products distribution systems will contribute financially to annual energy savings compared to total annual sales of energy to end consumers.

Another chapter concerns the renovation of buildings by implementing minimum energy performance requirements. The renovation of the real estate fund will be done under the conditions set out in a special sectoral strategy.

Within 6 months of the entry into force of the new law, the government will reorganize the Energy Efficiency Agency by merging with the Energy Efficiency Fund.
