Handicraft centre opened in Pelinia village

Chisinau, 20 August /MOLDPRES/- A Handicraft Center was opened in Pelinia village, Drochia district, during the first edition of the "Zestrea Nordului" festival. Thus, 40 local craftsmen will practice the craftsmanship of the region, by making folk costumes, traditional carpets and towels, based on preliminary orders.
The creation of the center was made possible by the financial support of the Swiss government worth 25,000 dollars. Local authorities have contributed 3,000 dollars and natives - 2,500 dollars.
“The center is a local business model that meets the challenges faced by Moldovan settlements,” Migration and Local Development project manager Oxana Maciuca said.
For the promotion of the center, the "Zestrea Nordului" Festival was organized for the first time in Pelinia. "By organizing the festival, we set out to show all the natives and tourists who visit us that Pelinia has unique traditions in the world. We are sure that by turning to good account this thesaurus, we will develop the locality," Titus Sarateanu, mayor of Pelinia, said.
An auction of old carpets was held at the festival.
The creation of the Handicraft Center is one of the eight local economic development projects carried out in the 38 partner localities of the Migration and Local Development Project, implemented with the support of UNDP Moldova and financial support of the Swiss government.
