Chisinau, 20 August /MOLDPRES/- The authorities today announced the Orange Code of measles throughout the country, and by the beginning of the new school year all children are to be vaccinated. Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Svetlana Cebotari made the statement today following a meeting of the national public healthcare commission.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that the relevant institutions did not react in time and did not take necessary measures against the epidemic.
“Those who are against vaccination are irresponsible, I refer to religious communities, and there are parents who are against vaccination. We are also talking about the irresponsibility of the local authorities, the case of the Moreni village camp. Irresponsibility was also showed by institutions or education authorities that admit children who are not vaccinated. There is a law in the Republic of Moldova that says very clearly that children who are not vaccinated are not allowed in communities. At the same time, the organization of this meeting on my own initiative speaks about the fact that the institutions are not doing their job well," he said.
Cebotari said that most cases of measles were recorded in localities in the south and the center of the country. "In this regard, all children and adults at risk will be vaccinated in the country. We will monitor all children in the first month of the school year to avoid the transmission of measles in the community. Also, children who are not vaccinated will not be admitted to educational institutions. In the localities we will have meetings with members of religious confessions and we will discuss the importance of vaccination," Cebotari said.
In the first seven months of this year, 37 cases of measles were found. At the same time, 90 cases were confirmed in August and 83 other children have measles symptoms. Outbreaks of measles are also in Ukraine and Romania.
Epidemiologists remind people that measles is a highly contagious disease and is spreading rapidly.
Measles can only be prevented by vaccination. Vaccination is free for all eligible people.
