Bust of famous actor to be erected in northern city of Moldova

Chisinau, 20 August /MOLDPRES/ – The bust of the famous theatre and cinema actor, Mihai Volontir, will be installed on the alley of National Culture Classics in Balti. The decision was taken today by the Government.

The project was approved at the proposal of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC), presented upon the Balti municipal council's decision. The bust will be built according to a project approved by MECC.

The expenditure on project documentation, execution, busting and landscaping will be covered by donations and sponsorships.

Mihai Volontir was a theatre and cinema actor. Within 57 years of his career, he played over 120 roles in theatre and film performances, and the role of Budulai in TV series "Tiganul" (The Gypsy) made him well – known worldwide. In 2000, Mihai Volontir was awarded the highest state distinction Ordinul Republicii (Order of the Republic) and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) named him "Cel mai bun actor al secolului XX din cinematografia moldoveneasca" (The best actor of the 20th century in Moldavian cinema). Mihai Volontir died on 15 September 2015, at the age of 81.

Also today, the Government decided to erect bust of Pantelimon Halippa in village Cubolta, Sangerei district.
