Moldovan government rejects initiative that civil servants can not be party members

Chisinau, 20 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Government has rejected today the legislative initiative stipulating that civil servants can not be members of political parties.

The draft law was submitted as a legislative initiative by a group of MPs in the Parliament and aims at amending and completing the Law on public function and status of civil servant.

The project initiators proposed that civil servants should not be members of political parties or socio – political organisations, can not contribute in any mode to political activities and can not make statements in favour or disadvantage of parties and other social – political organisations.

Minister of Justice, Victoria Iftodi, said at the Executive meeting that initiative can not be sustained because it violates fundamental rights and contravenes national and international law.
