Moldovan cabinet approves list of winners of National Prize 2018

Chisinau, 20 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Cabinet of Ministers has approved at its today meeting the list of winners of the National Prize, 2018 issue. The ten personalities with remarkable achievements in their fields of activity will be awarded with MDL 100,000, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
"The Government found this modest way of appreciating people of culture, science, special people which have promoted and continue to promote perhaps what is most beautiful in Moldova. I know that all of them deserve more, but it is important that we appreciate their work," said Pavel Filip.
Thus, the well – known director, actor and screenwriter, Viorel Mardare, was nominated as the winner of the National Prize for Original Creation in the Art of Publicistic Film and Promoting the Image of Moldova. His candidacy was proposed by PM Pavel Filip.
In the field of medicine, exceptional work, innovations and research have been awarded to doctors in medical sciences, surgeon Aureliu Batrînac and rheumatologist Liliana Groppa. For contribution to development of nanotechnologies and promotion of national science abroad, there was awarded scholar Oleg Lupan. The results of his work are published on covers of international magazines, and the scientist is constantly invited as a teacher at foreign Universities. However, the scholar always claims that he will only work at home in Moldova.
Gheorghe Savin was awarded for development of the national vineyard fund, and popular craftsman, Maria Cristea, founder and director of the House of folk costume, was appreciated for promoting cultural identity and protecting the national costume.
For remarkable achievements in the field of literature, it was awarded writer, Iurie Colesnic, and baritone, main soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre, Andrei Jilihovschi, was appreciated for exceptional interpretation and promotion of the image of Moldova.
This year, the prize will also be offered for charity. Chief Executive Officer of a Charity Association, Victoria Dunford, was selected for her contribution to projects on inclusion of persons with special needs. It will be also appreciated the promotion of Moldova's reintegration and security policy. Retired brigade general, head of the Moldovan Delegation in the Joint Control Commission, Ion Solonenco, is the winner of the prize in this field.
The National Prize is awarded yearly by the Government in gratitude for the obtained results in differemt fields of activity. The selection of winners is made by secret ballot by a competition commission, chaired by PM. The festive awarding ceremony of the National Prize will take place on Friday, 24 August 2018.
